Love can inspire us to do so many amazing things. The beauty of love is that it comes in many forms too – there is romantic love, familial love and self love, to the name the most prominent. It’s these types of love that will ultimately be the reason ‘why’ we choose to pursue particular tasks and goals. Love will guide our values and our values will drive our goals.
Love will guide our values and our values will drive our goals.
Discipline is hard and requires consistent effort, but with the right mindset, a positive attitude and ambitions based on love of yourself and others you can go so much further than you might think. Let me tell you why I think this is true…
Practicing self discipline with love, rather than forced self discipline will enable you to be more free in your thoughts, more aware of your needs and more prepared to deal with the struggles that pursuing our greatest goals can hold. It will show a genuine sense of care for yourself and the work that you are doing rather than being focused on the end result and the approval that you seek from others.
The truth is, if we are constantly seeking the approval of others in the work that we do, we will constantly be limited by other people’s ideas and other people’s restrictions will regulate the level and the array of our growth. Here’s a little example:
“I want to post on my blog every day so that I can gain lots and lots of followers and inspire lots and lots of people”
This a good start, with good intentions but how can this be better directed into a loving discipline?;
“I will write each day with the lessons I have learned and I will constantly seek to answer the questions that plague my own mind – and if others can relate that’s a bonus”
In both of these cases, the same task is being done – if your audience is meant to grow it will in either case, nothing changes that fact. But, if in the beginning you are finding it difficult to gain followers, to gain and audience and spread your message, the earlier example will find it difficult to find inspiration and is more likely to let their writing flame burn out.
We all have it in us to keep our flame alight, but it is truly important that we place our values on our own growth, which is a grand sense of self love.
We all have it in us to keep our flame alight, but it is truly important that we place our values on our own growth, which is a grand sense of self love. Love yourself and love the work that you do, the achievements, the accolades and the rewards will all come in time. They will be humbling, but you will realise that they are not necessary to keep driving you forward if you are truly interested in your own growth. Self discipline is driven by love.
