Freedom Is A Choice

Ever feel a bit trapped or asphyxiated because you can’t seem to control a lot of the outcomes of life? Yep, me too. I feel so controlled by life sometimes – by the expectations of my friends and family, the judgements of acquaintances and by my own inner yearning for approval, and this is all so wrong. I’m choosing to focus on the wrong things. I think that freedom is out of my control, like other somehow have power over me.

Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants. No person or situation can ever change that. The power is always in our hands and more accurately in our mindset. To be free, we merely have to choose to focus our vision on the opportunities that exist in our current context and positively work towards them (as hard as it might seem sometimes). Let’s delve a bit deeper…

We have more control over our freedom than we truly realise. Why seek approval from others when we know deep down there is an opportunity for personal growth that will give us far more satisfaction in life than the praise of others ever will?

When we focus on self approval we are more aware of our direction in life and aware of our growth. We know we are growing well before any other person even has an inkling we’ve made some positive adjustments to our life. The praise for success will be humbling, but not necessary. When we focus inward and celebrate our own victories we become a more consistent and credible person. We are less effected by what happens around us, and this is a lifelong lesson that the most fulfilled people have. They don’t give a toot about the judgements of others – they set good values and stick through them through all kinds of storms.

We have more control over our freedom than we truly realise. Why seek approval from others when we know deep down there is an opportunity for personal growth that will give us far more satisfaction in life than the praise of others ever will?

Growth has to be continuous if you want satisfaction and wholesomeness in your life. You can’t just magically try hard for a little bit and satisfaction will keep coming, that’s just not how it works. When you start to see your hard work pay off in the form of progress, you should desire to work even harder, to progress even further.

That’s a fortunate thing for us as humans. There is always an inner hunger to build a better version of ourselves, one that surpasses who we were yesterday and one that makes us proud of our achievements (nobody else).

So if you’ve fallen into the trap of believing that the only satisfaction you will receive in life comes from others, think again. Whilst making your parents or your family proud is very satisfying, we can’t be reliant on this because it might not always come. You can be your best and your worst enemy. Encourage yourself, celebrate your victories and support yourself in your shortcomings – you have the power to do that.

This is where true freedom lies. There will be no fear in your actions or words when you know full well you’re trying your hardest and doing the best that you can to progress. Self love stems from sacrificing time now and putting in hard work for our future self, to put us in a position we will be greatful for in the future. Don’t let the world asphyxiate you.

Freedom is a choice.

Always,
