Positive Experiences – Mark Manson

Positive thinking will drive you to places you never thought possible. Positive thinking about your potential, about other’s thoughts of you, and about the the potential for your current situation to turn around. Your thoughts create your reality, so why not create a positive reality?

It seems simple right?…think positively and you will lead a positive life. But there’s actually a small catch, and it was put forward quite simply in Mark Manson‘s interpretation. “The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.”

The desire for more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.

Mark Manson

So with that said, there might be a little confusion. Does that mean we should just seek out negative experiences, or is there something more? Well in actual fact, the deliberate seeking out of negative experiences could be a way to start. Maybe you might perceive something as negative from the outside looking in, but once you experience it, you realise, “hey, it’s not that bad!” Then you start to ponder, if this negative experience it’s not that bad, what other experiences have I incorrectly perceived to be more negative than what they actually are?

By opening yourself up to more experiences you increase your potential. You are no longer held back by limitations and you start to grasp a sense of fulfilment and gratitude for the situations you once perceived as negative. That’s not to say that these negative experiences won’t require hard work to continue persevering through, but you will realise the value of persevering, and you will be willing to put in the effort.

Positive thinking will drive you, but the acceptance of your negative experiences will keep you going.

Always,
